about jacob /

Jacob Raab started his journey as an impressionable young jazz trumpet player who moved from Indiana to Oregon in 2012 in search of adventure. In the decade since moving west — and especially after four-plus years of living on the road — he has grown into a competent and confident alpinist, exploring the mountains of the US and Peru, chasing ice halfway across the globe, and climbing first ascents on three continents. He has worked for The North Face; Bozeman / Cody / Michigan Ice Festival, among other climbing events; and countless seasonal employers over the course of his dirtbagging years. After spending nearly four years living in Ouray, CO, Jacob will be relocating to Bogotá, Colombia, in late 2024 to write the next chapter of his life in music.

Jacob has been shooting photos since 2013, when he brought a camera along on a climbing trip to Moab, UT to share scenes and stories with friends and family back home. His photography work has since been featured in publications such as Alpinist, Men’s Journal, and Mountain Gazette; clients include notable outdoor organizations such as Protect Our Winters and the American Alpine Club. He has also been a gallery artist at Healthy Rhythm in Montrose, CO. Prints of Jacob’s work are available on this site.

Jacob's most recent musical endeavors mostly consist of playing his horns with anyone around the world who lets him on stage — local open mics, friends' bands, random strangers, campfire jams, international backpackers' hostels — anything goes when you're just playing around. He started a solo loop-based act in 2018 and is now making music under the name Alpenblow.

Always open to new adventures, and bringing with him a diverse skillset — both creative and technical — Jacob is likely available to join your team as a horn player, climber, photographer, A/V tech, or support staff. He is equipped to handle conditions anywhere on the globe and prepared to suffer for the shot, whether behind the lens or in front of it...and he probably won't say no if you ask him to come.

Never stop exploring, right?
